How We Review Products

When we recommend something on this site, it's not because someone paid us to say it. Here's how we actually decide what makes the cut.

We research the whole category

Before we recommend a single product, we dig into the entire category. We compare real specs — weight capacity, dimensions, materials, warranty terms, pricing. Not just the marketing copy. We look at what's actually available, what it actually costs, and what the differences actually are.

We listen to real families

Manufacturer websites will tell you their product is great. We want to know what happens six months after someone installs it. We read forums, Facebook groups, and review threads from people who are actually caring for aging parents. Their experience matters more than any spec sheet.

We test what we can

When it's possible, we get hands on the products ourselves. We check how sturdy they feel, how easy they are to install, and whether the instructions make sense to someone who isn't a contractor. Not every product can be tested in person, but when we can do it, we do.

We recommend what we'd tell our own family

This is the filter that matters most. If we wouldn't tell our own mom to buy it, it doesn't go on the site. We don't list every option on the market — we pick the ones worth your time and money, and explain why.

Commissions never decide what we recommend

Yes, we earn commissions on some products through affiliate links. No, that doesn't change what we recommend. If a product with a higher commission isn't the best choice, we won't push it. We disclose every affiliate relationship on every page where it applies. Read our full disclosure.

We keep our guides current

Products get discontinued, prices change, better options come out. We go back and update our guides when things shift. If something we recommended six months ago isn't the best pick anymore, we'll change it.
